Very Busy Day.

Normally on my blog, I write down a funny story, weird insight, complain, or posts a video that amused me that day. However, today was all over the place. So, I woke up today to the sweet sounds of 10 AM and promptly went to my desk to study for my history final...which I complain about CONSTANTLY to my review packet...and to people on Facebook.

Then, later in the afternoon, my mother went and came back form the library with a movie I had requested, "The Day After Tomorrow." I took a break for lunch then, and popped in the movie for a little teaser before I go back to studying. The movie is essentially about...the world ending through extreme weather conditions. I suddenly thought...I could TOTALLY plan my essay while listening to this movie...cuz I'm an EXCELLENT procrastinator. However, as I was watching...it put things in perspective. "Look what these people are going through....if they can survive their world coming to an end...I CAN SURVIVE THIS ESSAY!!!"...And I did.

Then....we went shoe shopping. Just cuz.

We came home, had an early Father's Day dinner (I don't know why) and in that dinner., my parents start talking about how they want to update their will. This. was. so. awkward. They were wondering about custody if they died. My brother would get me. Awk.

Then, my brother proceeded to give me some weird advice. Did you know that if you have acne, if you put toothpaste on your whiteheads...your acne goes away? Well, I'm trying it now...and I feel extremely stupid for having dried toothpaste on my face...but it feels like its working. Who woulda thunk it?...Apparently my new parental guardian. Yikes!

A weird day indeed.

SpiderMonster: The Musical?

Spiderman: Turn Off the Dark had its opening night on Broadway on Tuesday and as I stumbled through YouTube, I found this little gem. Sesame Street spoofs Spiderman and the well publicized falls and injuries that have occurred. It's hilarious....there's a muppet dressed like Bono. C'mon.

That Time of the Year.

Finals are approaching and I'm so blinded by the fact the we have finals, that I cannot even appreciate that tomorrow is our last day of school. It doesn't feel like summer. It doesn't feel like this year is over. It doesn't feel like there is a sense of resolution of this hellish junior year. Plus, there's nothing that you receive at the end of this year show what you've been through, and how you got through the toughest year in highschool. Well, here it goes. The BEST WEEK EVER....starts now. great.

The Mutherf**cker With the Taps

I mentioned last night that our beloved Sutton Foster won her second Tony Award for her portrayal of Reno Sweeney in Cole Porter's musical "Anything Goes." During the Tony's, the revival performed the title song of the show and after which, I literally jumped out of my seat shouting things like "YESS!!! YOU GO GURRRLLL!!"
Watch below and you will fall in love.
P.S. Her vibrato on the last note is PURE GENIUS.

And here is her speech. We'll miss you Julian.

Thank You For Being A Friend...

I have never seen this show, or know any of the characters' names, but I do know that this show has been called an American treasure. I am talking about "The Golden Girls." Betty White, Bea Arthur and Rue Mclanahan...C'MON!! Now, I have heard this theme song many a time, and most recently it's been stuck in my head. Jealous? I think you should be.

It's kinda just a FABULOUS song.
Adorable.

Where Did I Put That?

Losing things is LITERALLY the most annoying thing in the world. I was working on a math review packet for a test on Friday...I took a break from t for about fifteen minutes...and now I can't find it. It disappeared. It's frustrating. Blargh.

Delusion

Today, I thought school was over...I thought it was Friday and summer had almost begun. I full heartedley believed this as I was walking, or striding, out of school today. I was wrong. It is Tuesday.

Tuesday.

I can't believe it. I currently have 6 more days of school, until the hell week of finals. That's a total of 11 days of learning in my high school. And boy is it coming slowly.

You know that song that goes "time goes by...so slowly"?
Well, soundtrack of my life, when I want it to be "Gotta go, gotta go, gotta go right now!"
BUT THE JUDGE DOESN'T UNDERSTAND!!! SHE HAS TO GOOOOOO!!!!

Babs + Coco + Barker = Genius.

I stumbled across this while poking aroung my FAVORITE supermodel, Coco Rocha's, blog. Now, Coco was participating in a project by Nigel Barker of America's Next Top Model fame. Nigel is a famed photographer who decided to put together a look-book called "RAW," which depicts simple images of people being completely natural and well...raw. Coco was asked to be a part of this, and OF COURSE she had her own twist. She models fiercely....whilst lip-syncing to her Barbra Streisand playlist...especially the song "Don't Rain on my Parade." The photos are genius and so is this backstage video of the blessed event. Watch it by clicking the below link and you won't be able to get tha tsong out of your head....but totally worth it:

A Motion Picture's Worth A Thousand Words

Recently, I've watched a couple documentaries about the education system in the United States. When I normally think about the hardships about school, my mind goes to essays and tests. However, some of these kids in Los Angeles, Harlem, and Washington D.C., are dealing with extreme poverty and gang violence, on top of their school work. The first documentary that essentially has changed my way of thinking was the critically acclaimed "Waiting for 'Superman'," a PHENOMENAL documentary that actually left me crying at the end. If you have not seen this documentary, turn off your computer, go down to the library or video store, or whatever and WATCH IT. It is such a powerful film that tackles an issue that we do not like to face: we are failing at our job as a country to educate those who need to be. This documentary delves into the very real problems. Problems and levels of unfairness that are apparent in lesser wealthy cities. Rent it. Get it. Watch it. Now. It will change your life.

The second documentary I feel in love with was called "The First Year," and although a smaller documentary, it captured the essence of how hard a teacher, especially a new teacher in their first year of teaching, has to work in one of these inner city class rooms dealing with little children brought up in gangs or poor neighborhoods. These teachers work to hard and sometimes there are things they cannot control. I was actually very inspired by one teacher in this documentary: Mr. Nate Maloney. He taught the fifth grade and was super hands on in his practicing. He would work one on one with students and help them out of class too. He would take some fishing, some to lunches, and just plain ol' visit some at home if they were sick. I was actually so inspired that I looked up more about him, and found out that he has since become the principal of the elementary school. I shot him an email explaining my gratitude for his involvement in bettering the lives of those who society might label as hopeless. "The First Year." Watch it. Now. It will change your life.

Both of these documentaries were so amazingly directed my Mr. Davis Guggenheim, who people might know as the director of "An Inconvenient Truth." That's the next one on my list. Thank you Mr. Guggenheim!

Home on the Range.

This weekend, my youth group and I have the amazing opportunity to work on a farm for Heifer international. It's gonna be RATHER fierce, RATHER hot, and RATHER messy....but without Dan Rather....I think it's funny...

All in the Balance.

Today was been a strange day of back and forth emotions. Here's what happened today:

Woke up 2.5 hours late because school started later - Good.
Missed my bus - Bad
Came to school and realized that I only had one class - Good.
Went to Math - Bad
Met with my guidance counselar, and talked about me being on a hiring committee- Good.
Asked to draw a caricature for my math teacher - Good.
Went to meeting of drama department where our next production was revealed - Good.
Came home, then went to a wake for a person I didn't know - Bad.
It was HOT and HUMID out - Bad.
While at a pit stop in Men's Warehouse, tornado warning....eeeekkk - Bad.
The store closed their gates and told everyone to be careful - Bad.
We decided to leave...and actually avoided everything weather wise - Good.
Uber traffic - Bad.
Got home, and drank Diet Coke - Good.

So, the final tally: Good = 7, Bad = 7. Split evenly down the middle. And I feel that way.
I feel like...just...normal....and not in a mood...at all.
Okay.
